CFD modelling of an animal occupied zone using an anisotropic porous medium model with velocity depended resistance parameters

The airflow in dairy barns is affected by many factors, such as the barn’s geometry, weather conditions, configurations of openings, cows acting heat sources, flow obstacles, etc. Computational fluids dynamics (CFD) has advantages providing detailed information and allowing fully-controlled boundary therefore widely used livestock building research. However, due to limited computing power, numerous animals are difficult be designed detail. Consequently, there need develop use smart numerical models order reduce power needed while at same time keeping a comparable level accuracy. In this work porous medium modeling considered solve problem using Ansys Fluent. A comparison between an animal occupied zone (AOZ) filled with randomly arranged 22 simplified cows’ geometry model (CM) (PMM) it, was made. Anisotropic behavior PMM implemented account for turbulence influences. velocity inlet domain been varied from 0.1 m s?1 3 temperature difference incoming air set 20 K. Leading Richardson numbers Ri corresponding three types transfer convection, i.e. natural, mixed forced convection. It found that two (the cow PMM) around 2% pressure drop less than 6% convective transfer. Further usefulness parametrized adaptive coefficient shown field validation on-farm measurement.
